Road & Lake · June 2026 · by the Grab the Product team
Lake Malone sits about twenty minutes south of us, and on summer weekends half of Muhlenberg County seems to head that way. Sandstone bluffs, quiet coves, a cooler full of sandwiches. Here is what we keep packed so a lake day stays a good day.
Before you pull out of the drive
- Check tire pressure. Hot pavement and a loaded truck both push numbers around. A cordless inflator gets you to the right PSI in a couple of minutes.
- Look over the roadside kit. Jumper cables, gloves and a reflective vest. Some of the back roads around the lake have spotty signal, so being ready matters.
- Top off fluids and grab water. One gallon per person is a good rule for a full day out.
At the water
- Sunglasses with real UV protection. Glare off the water is tiring on the eyes. Look for UV400 lenses.
- Shoes that can get wet. Thin-soled, quick-dry shoes handle rocky banks and boat ramps, then dry out on the dash ride home.
- A dry bag for phones and keys. Nobody wants to fish a key fob out of the cove.
Quick tip: keep a small towel and a spare set of clothes in the truck from May through September. You'll use them more than you think.
On the drive home
Rinse sandy floor mats when you get back, and recharge the inflator so it is ready for the next trip. If a bumper clip shook loose on a gravel road, a sorted clip kit makes it a five-minute fix.
